Sycamore Creek Elementary is a Positive Behavior Support (PBS) School. The staff use "CHOMP" as a foundation for defining expectations. Sycamore Creek implements the Positive Behavior System in order to encourage students to exhibit appropriate behavior in all areas of school. Classes are awarded "chompliments" by staff members when the defined behaviors are shown by the entire class. Our class will have the opportunity to earn rewards when we reach 50, 100, 150, and 200 "chompliments". The number of "chompliments" that we receive will be displayed outside of our classroom.
We will begin each morning with the Sycamore Creek Crocodile Creed.

We will be using Class Dojo as part of our behavior plan this year. Class Dojo is a digital behavior management system that documents the positive and negative behaviors in our classroom. Each child’s avatar is displayed on our smart board. Throughout the day, each time I spot your child exhibiting a good behavior, they will earn a point & the computer will “ding” alerting them that I noticed they were being a fabulous student. Alternatively, if I notice your child exhibiting a negative behavior, they will lose a point and the computer will make a “bonk” sound reminding them to get back on track. Names will only be displayed for positive behaviors, not negative ones, so as not to embarrass students. Once a student earns an agreed upon number of points (this may vary from student to student depending on his or her individual needs), they earn a reward.
What else is great about this behavior system is that parents are able to log on to Class Dojo using any smart phone, tablet, or computer and see how their child did that day. They will also send you a report if you so choose so you can see what specific good or bad behaviors are happening at school. Again, we mostly focus on the positive, but we do have to take points away sometimes to make sure everyone is staying on task.
More information will be sent home about Class Dojo after the year gets started. We will also discuss it at Open House.
